Get Movin' - Four Reasons to Start Exercising Right Now

Apr 10, 2015 10:01:06 AM

Real estate agents spend a lot of time running, but are they running around or running for health? In celebration of KW Wellness Day, here are four reasons you should start exercising right now.

Making time for exercise is hard. As a successful real estate agent, you probably spend a lot of time in your car and even more time connected to your computer managing your listings and lead generating. Finding time to exercise might feel like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

When you think you don’t have time, take a look at Zander Ross, an American Airlines flight attendant who, despite spending 20 days a month 35,000 ft in the air, runs 60 miles each week. Ross says the running helps him manage stress and is the best way to see the sights of whatever city he is in.

Be a Tourist in Your Own Town-On Foot

Imagine taking a jog or brisk walk through various neighborhoods you frequently show clients. Pick a safe neighborhood that you are comfortable with, lace up your running shoes, and explore. You might see things a little differently and be able to share that information when you are showing clients homes in the neighborhood.

Use a Fitness App or Gadget to Motivate You

When you log your miles, you have a tangible result that inspires you to keep trying harder. Fitness gadgets like the Fitbit and fitness apps like MapMyFitness track your activity and help you set and reach your fitness goals. The average mile is 2,000 steps. People walking less than 6,000 steps (three miles) each day are considered sedentary. The rule of thumb for healthy living is 10,000 steps a day or more. If you aren’t tracking your steps, you might not know how many more steps you need to elevate your health.

Build a Support Team

Working in a group makes you accountable to your peers and keeps you encouraged to stay on track. In their bestselling book The ONE Thing, Gary Keller and Jay Papasan explain that it takes 66 days on average to build a new habit. They even created a 66-Day Challenge to give readers the tools they need to form positive habits in their lives. You can download a free tracker here. Additionally, a step-by-step guide for actually launching a 66-day wellness challenge is now available. This free guide details the 7 steps you need to take to run your own 66-day challenge.

Make More Money

And if you need a little more motivation to get moving, hundreds of studies conducted on the benefits of corporate wellness programs have shown that corporate wellness is not only good for employees, it is good for business’ bottom lines.

Keller Williams was recently named one of Principal Financial Group's 10 Best Companies for Employee Financial Security in part because of the company's commitment to physical wellness.
